Work Locations: Eagleview Farmers Market (Eagleview Town Center, Exton); Downingtown Farmers Market (Kerr Park); Malvern Farmers Market (Burke Park); Storage Facility (Frazer)
Schedule: Thursdays (1:15pm – 7pm) and Saturdays (7:15am – 2:00pm)
Position Type: Part-Time, Seasonal (May through December) *option to extend year round if desired
Availability Requirement: 2-4 Thursday markets per month and 2-4 Saturday markets per month *additional hours may be available if desired

Position Overview

The Farmers Market Staff member plays a key role in the on-site success of weekly markets by supporting daily operations and creating a welcoming, well-organized environment for vendors and shoppers. This role serves as the primary on-site representative during market hours, working independently while maintaining communication with an off-site supervisor.

This position combines hands-on event coordination with community engagement, ensuring markets run smoothly, safely, and in alignment with established guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform market setup and breakdown in accordance with the approved site map and operational guidelines

  • Transport market equipment, supplies, and cash between the storage facility and market locations

  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for vendors and shoppers during market hours

  • Confirm vendor arrivals and document lateness or absences in the Manager on Duty (MOD) log

  • Enforce market rules and vendor agreement requirements, escalating issues to the supervisor as appropriate

  • Set up and maintain the market tent, table, signage, and marketing materials

  • Capture required photos of growers and vendors and post content to Instagram as directed

  • Administer SNAP/EBT and VeggieBucks transactions in accordance with program procedures

  • Monitor market conditions for safety concerns and maintain cleanliness throughout the market day

  • Conduct an estimated shopper headcount and record data in the MOD log

  • Collect and record vendor fees, including payment method, amounts, and nutrition program details

  • Tally cash totals and upload completed fee collection documentation to the designated folder

  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the storage unit and market equipment

  • Track equipment inventory and report maintenance or supply needs

  • Safeguard and manage access to the storage unit key

Job Details

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Pay: $19/hour

  • Market Grocery Stipend: $300 annually (Years 2-5), $600 annually (Years 6+)

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures, guidelines, and direction from an off-site supervisor

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for tracking vendor attendance, fees, and market documentation

  • Clear and professional communication skills when interacting with vendors, shoppers, and supervisors

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a live market environment, including setup, customer service, and administrative tasks

  • Problem-solving ability and sound judgment when addressing onsite issues and escalating concerns as needed

  • Ability to maintain a welcoming, customer-friendly presence while enforcing market policies

  • Basic proficiency with smartphones and social media platforms, including Instagram

  • Reliability, punctuality, and a consistent, responsible approach to independent work

  • Ability to follow operational systems for cash handling, documentation, and nutrition program administration

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in retail, food service, hospitality, events, or other public-facing roles is required

  • Familiarity with social media content posting and basic photography (especially Instagram)

  • Experience handling cash, point-of-sale systems, or financial tracking procedures

  • Experience working in farmers markets, community events, or similar outdoor environments is a plus

  • Experience supporting SNAP/EBT or similar nutrition assistance programs is a plus

  • Experience with inventory tracking, equipment management, or operational logistics is a plus

Working Conditions

  • This is a fully onsite position at multiple farmers market locations in Chester County, PA

  • Regular work is required on Thursdays (afternoon/evening) and Saturdays (early morning through early afternoon)

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during market operations

  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport market equipment, supplies, and materials

  • Regular travel between storage locations and market sites is required; reliable transportation is necessary

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain

  • Work is performed independently as the sole onsite staff member during market hours
